Teaching American History in SW Washington

Local Newspaper Celebrates History Teachers

June 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Two of the committed teachers I’ve worked with over the years, Mike Kleiner and Beth Doughty at Chief Umtuch Middle School in Battle Ground, were recently acknowledged in The Columbian newspaper.  The paper gives them the recognition they deserve, both for the great work they do teaching their students as well as having received Barringer Research Fellowships (which their using to further their efforts to create a “rethinking Thomas Jefferson” resource.)

While I’m not crazy about how I was quoted – and I know that the folks at the Department of Education would bristle at the Teaching American History Grant Program being referred to as a “social studies grant” – I think that teachers deserve all the kudos they can get and hope that the article brings even more interest to our work…
